New penalties proposed for DUI arrests

Individuals charged with driving under the influence may soon have to install BAC level testers in their vehicles, even if they have never been convicted before.

A new bill, if passed, would make it mandatory for those individuals charged with drunken driving to have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicles.

Currently, ignition locks are only required after a 1st DUI conviction.

The bill requires Gov. Dannel Malloy’s signature for implementation.
