Man charged with DUI after a crash that killed a woman

On Sunday, 42-year-old John Shepard was taken into custody by the police for driving while intoxicated and causing an accident in which a woman was killed.

On Sunday, around 7:18 p.m., police responded to an accident on private property on the VFW Highway. Shepard was driving the vehicle and 49-year-old Leah Coleman was travelling with him in the vehicle, according to the police.

At the accident spot, police performed medical care on Coleman and then she was taken to Middlesex Medical Center Shoreline in Essex with the help of Old Saybrook ambulance for treatment. She died at the Medical Center due to the injuries sustained in the accident.

Shepard was arrested on the suspicion of driving under the influence and he was transferred to Old Saybrook Police Department for processing. Later, he was released on bond.

He is summoned to court on 29th of July.
