DUI Suspect’s Wife busted for DUI after arriving drunk at police HQ

32-year-old April Cassidy Velez was arrested for DUI after she arrived at police headquarters in Hamden, Conn. drunk to pick her husband.

According to police reports, Edwin Velez III’s wife was arrested for DUI after arriving at Police Headquarters to bail out her husband who was charged with DUI on Saturday in Hamden, Conn.

33-year-old Edwin Velez III was charged with DUI after a crash in Hamden. He had his wife April Cassidy Velez and 5-year-old daughter with him in the car at the time of the crash. Police told that officers located his car crashed into a snow bank on Pine Rock Avenue. All members left the crashed car empty with the engine running. Later, an officer located Velez III at his home a short distance away from Pine Rock Avenue. Police arrested him after he failed a field sobriety test. His blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit. The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. last Saturday.

After few hours, his wife, 32-year-old April Cassidy Velez, showed up at the Police Headquarters to bail out her husband where she appeared intoxicated and was charged with DUI. Police told that April Velez parked her pickup truck in a snow bank in an area of the parking lot marked “Police Vehicles Only”. Police officers found an empty wine bottle and empty beer cans in the truck. They also found a full six-pack of beer resting in the snow in the bed of the pickup. No photo of April Cassidy Velez was released.

April Velez is charged with driving under the influence after a blood-alcohol test while Edwin Velez is charged with driving under the influence and risk of injury to a minor. Both husband and wife were released and scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 22.
