Connecticut state trooper charged with drunk driving

State police told FOX-CT that a Connecticut state trooper has been charged with drunk driving, after his police cruiser struck an on-coming truck and flipped over on Friday night in Ellington.

According to the police, 42-year-old Trooper Christopher Powers was travelling west-bound on Sandy Beach Road, when he collided with an on-coming Dodge Ram, after crossing into the east bound lane.

The state police vehicle stopped onto its roof and a police document shows 2013 Ford Interceptor in a totally damaged condition. According to the police, Powers was not on-duty when the accident happened.

Police said that 2 individuals were riding in the Dodge Ram. The driver didn’t sustain any injury in the accident and the passenger was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital as the passenger sustained minor injuries, where she was treated and released.

A statement released by the police on Saturday said that Powers was also treated for minor injuries he sustained in the accident and released.

Police charged Powers with DWI and Failure to Drive Right and was released on a $500 non-surety bond.
