HARTFORD, Conn. – David Alexander, a Connecticut state representative, apologized for being arrested on a drunken driving charge.
A statement was released by the Enfield Democrat Saturday saying, “I take full responsibility for my actions and I am deeply sorry.”
The incident took place early Saturday in Windsor Locks but no information related to the event was released by the police.
According to Alexander, he will take the necessary steps to overcome his struggles with alcohol and to regain the trust of his constituents.
House Speaker Brendan Sharkey is still gathering information related to the incident. He said that the situation is serious enough and it can warrant Alexander’s removal from his leadership responsibilities as vice-chair of the Government Administration & Elections Committee.
However, Sharkey also said that he trusts Alexander that he will take up the appropriate steps as he said in his statement.
